Coast to Coast to Coast USA Alger Tour of America

Hello Everyone,

Day 20 had us taking a short drive (210 miles) from Charlottesville, VA to Chapel Hill, NC for an evening at Big Thatch, the Sharp residence. The Sharps are old friends of ours from Oak Park. We also made a stop at Duke University so Heather could show the kids and me where she spent her formative years.

Here are a couple more state line pics. Tick Virginia and North Carolina off the list. I'm trying to convince Heather to vote for Obama but she still seems to be leaning Libertarian. She's afraid that she'll have to give up her gun unless we "vote for someone who keeps the gun owner in mind." If you look real close you can see the outline of her shoulder-holstered Glock under her peasant smock.

Here's a pic of Heather and the kids in front of the chapel at Duke. It's amazing how nice the facilities and buildings are there. Maybe more universities should seek funding from tobacco tycoons. It was nice to see where Heather went to school and I was real impressed. Go Blue Devils!

Super Special Travel Blog Quiz
Whoever answers the following three questions correctly will win a real nice prize. Not quite sure what the prize will be but I am sure it will be real nice.
Question #1 - Who is Charlottesville, VA named after?
Question #2 - What does Monticello translate to from Italian?
Question #3 - Where do the Duke Blue Devils get their mascot name from?
Send your answers in and we'll post the winner's name's soon.

After our Duke visit, we made the short drive to Chapel Hill where the Sharps live. We got to see their lovely home and Shari cooked us a nice dinner. Grace and Russell got to see their old friends, Rene and Ruby, too. Lots of fun and frivolity ensued. Heather's old college friend (from Duke, of course), Susan, also showed up as well as our new friend, Anna. See for yourselves. Shari's sister and nephew from Mexico also showed up later in the evening and all of the grownups woke up with a bit of "fun flu." Thanks Shari, Rene, and Ruben!

Off to Oma Karen's tomorrow.
